From server to the cave
April 3, 2012, ECS along with HP, our longtime principal, organized a joint presentation for our preferred customers. The presentation of new HP technologies and ECS IT solutions this year we organized in the traditional restaurant Kozjak, near Sveti Križ Začretje (last year it was in Trajbar). This idyllic old-fashioned, homey atmosphere, that presentations of high-tech themes and talks about them, successfully turned into a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with good food and good wine.
The general idea for this meeting was to present to our customers the choice of the latest HP technology and products that we believe may be of interest to them, and transfer them to ECS’s experience in creating IT solutions and their implementation.
From the HP portfolio of servers products Tomislav Lukacevic, HP ESSN presales Consultant, presented the new product line of ProLiant servers eighth generation, which offer better performance with greater efficiency. Lukacevic has described in detail, HP Insight Online service, a service that allows you to manage servers from a remote location on Cloud principle. The second presentation was given by Drazen Bzik, ECS’s presales consultant, who has covered three topics of HP Networking. The presentation pointed out the interesting trends in the converged network infrastructure. He explained how the functioning of the HP BladeSystem Virtual Connect technology that simplifies server replacement without engagement LAN and SAN administrators. Another topic was the HP FlexFabric, which combined with the Virtual Connect technology allows the sharing of virtual network resources and FC logical components whose speed is now the sum of 10 Gb, as opposed to 1 Gb, which offers traditional technology. As the last topic, Drazen covered, so called, IRF (Intelligent Resilient Framework) technology, which is actually a form of network virtualization technology that allows to simplify network design.
Theme of the third presentation were the HP StorageWorks D2D Backup Systems. Tomislav Lukacevic from HP, emphasized the benefits of HP systems, and technological improvements over previous systems. StoreOnce D2D Backup Systems with HP StoreOnce data deduplication makes disk-based data protection in data centers and remote locations, automate and consolidate the backup server farm on one storage system, increasing efficiency and reliability reducing the risk of manipulation with large amounts of media (tape) . HP StoreOnce deduplication software allows significantly reducing the amount of redundant data up to 20 times or more, depending on the type of data. This facilitates the transfer of data required for the replication in disaster-recovery solutions.
In the second part of the presentation users had the opportunity to hear two interesting cases. The first, presented by Daniel Berošević and Nikola Di Giusto, ESC’s consultant, described the case of migration of Oracle databases from an old AlphaServer ES40 to ProLiant server platform at financial institution as a customer, while Josip Volf, also ECS’s consultant, spoke about integration of HP Storage Replication Technologies and VMware SRM, as good alternatives to traditional technologies in all cases where this is justified, and that conditions are highly virtualized environment.
After lunch came the fun part of this all-day event that included a visit to the new Museum of Krapina Neanderthals in the near Krapina. It was very instructive and interesting to see how a man dealt with his life’s problems in the past a few tens of thousands of years.
